MGM Wireless Student, Parent and Customer Privacy Policy
Nothing is more important to us than student and parent safety and privacy. We ensure that information in our possession or control is kept secure and not misused. Making our customers aware of the MGM Wireless Customer Privacy Policy is part of our commitment to providing them with the best possible service, so please take a moment to read the following policy and learn how we handle school and personal information.
1: Student and Parent Personal Information
MGM Wireless does not collect or use student or parent personal information. We understand the importance of child and student safety and the responsibility of keeping information private. It is a function of our attendance communication solutions that our systems must record student, school and parent information while it is in our systems’ possession, however after our infrastructure delivers communication to the recipient that information is destroyed as soon as practically possible.
Compliance with Australian & New Zealand Privacy Legislation
MGM Wireless systems have been certified to comply with Australian legislation and are in the process of achieving compliance in New Zealand.
We do not use off-shore communication providers, as this is a clear breach of Australian Privacy Legislation.
Police Background Checks
A condition of engagement of all MGM Wireless employees, consultants, contractors and sub-contractors, communication service providers and advisors is that they successfully pass Police Background Checks for any prior child safety and/or sexual offences.
Any child safety or related offence results in the immediate termination of MGM Wireless’ relationship with that individual or organisation.
Policy on Use of International Communication Carriers
We use only local mobile phone carriers in the country in which the school is located for our SMS communications. Using off-shore carriers can present a very high risk of misuse of confidential student, parent and school data and a potential breach of privacy laws.
Some low cost communication providers subsidise their cost of communication by recording and selling school communication data to advertisers. MGM Wireless will not knowingly deal with such companies.
Data Security
MGM Wireless school solutions are designed to work with the data security policies and protocols of each school environment. As far as possible, all existing school and Departmental polices are preserved. In many cases, individual Education Departments have audited our systems for security. Please contact your local Education Department or MGM Wireless for audit results and approvals.
The following Security protocols are used by MGM Wireless:
- All communication is encrypted using Secure Socket Layer (SSL) technology.
- Two Tier Geographical Redundancy is employed.
- Electronic security control of equipment areas is employed.
- Physically separated areas are available for collocated equipment.
- Servers are fully locked down, running only essential services, with CISCO firewalls and CISCO routers used to secure data.
- Servers are connected to UPS power and have RAID disk arrays for greater reliability.
- Servers are backed up daily and tapes stored in a fireproof safe.
- Dual servers are used to provide complete redundancy.
- The MGM Wireless message centre infrastructure is hosted in dual redundancy locations in Adelaide, with supporting infrastructure at MCI in Sydney and Perth. Both collocation centres are world class carrier-neutral facilities housing high-speed connectivity to major Australian and international providers including Singtel, Connect, Telstra and MCI WorldCom.
- MGM Wireless premises are based on a secure floor with 24 hour PIN access required. Each PC is password protected with passwords needing to be changed regularly. MGM Wireless reporting server and developers’ infrastructure is also password protected.
